About the RPS Membership

The Renal Pathology Society is a nonprofit organization committed to increasing and disseminating knowledge about the pathology and pathophysiology of the kidney. Regular Membership is open to any MD, DO, MBBS, PhD, DVM, or equivalent doctoral degree holder who has demonstrated accomplishments in nephropathology as determined by the Membership Committee under the direction of the Executive Committee. Junior Memberships for those individuals who are in training as well as Associate Memberships for those interested in renal pathology but lacking a doctoral degree are also available.

Membership Types & Criteria

Sustaining Member:

Any Regular Member of the Society paying additional funds as specified from time to time by the Board of Directors in addition to the annual dues to help sustain the activities of the Society.

Regular Member:

Any holder of an MD, PhD, DVM, or equivalent degree with demonstrated interest and involvement in the field of renal pathology as determined by the Membership Committee, using criteria agreed upon by the Board of Directors. Annual dues for a regular member shall be as specified from time to time by the Board of Directors.

RPS offers regular membership at reduced fees for members in countries designated as low-middle or low income based on United Nations data. In 2023, landlocked developed countries are: Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Mongolia, Nepal, Niger, North Macedonia, Paraguay, Republic of Moldova, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Any holder of an MD, PhD, DVM, or equivalent degree with demonstrated interest in the field of renal pathology as evidenced by enrollment in a renal pathology training program or research at the resident or fellow level. Junior Membership is free of dues.

Emeritus Member:

Emeritus status is available for members who have retired from active professional service in pathology, pathophysiology, or pathogenesis of renal diseases. A member may become emeritus by requesting this status, in writing, to the Secretary. Emeritus members do not pay dues, nor may they serve on committees or hold elected office.

Associate & Community Member: 

A person who has demonstrated interest and involvement in the field of renal pathology as determined by the Membership Committee, using criteria agreed upon by the Board of Directors, but who lacks a doctoral degree. This category includes allied health professionals, patients, family members, caregivers, or members of patient-advocacy groups with an interest in renal pathology. Annual dues, if any, shall be as specified from time to time by the Board of Directors.

Enroll using the Online Registration Form. Please have the following documents ready to upload

1. Current curriculum vitae, and 
2. A letter stating evidence for fulfillment of one or more of the following membership requirements :
   

Criterion 1:

Publication of at least one peer-reviewed article in the field of nephropathology,

or

Criterion 2: 

Completion of a minimum of six months research or clinical traineeship in nephropathology, e.g. during residency or postdoctoral fellowship,

or

Criterion 3: 

Extensive clinical experience with the diagnostic pathologic evaluation of renal diseases,

or

Criterion 4: 

Extensive research experience on the pathology, pathophysiology, or pathogenesis of renal diseases.

For interested trainees with no prior accomplishments, a junior membership is offered and dues are waved.
